Job Description

What’s Health Care Innovation (HCI) Operations at Wellmark?  
The Health Care Innovation Operations team is a new team within the division that encompasses a variety of specialties, focuses and impacts across the division and organization. As an intern you, will have the opportunity to rotate across the team, spending time with subject matter expects. You will gain valuable skills in the divisonal process improvement functions, Compliance, Audit, Legal functions, data visualization, intelligence research and collobarative efforts across numerous projects in an agile framework.

What projects might I support? Some examples of the work you may be responsible for during your internship:

  • Provide day to day experiences of collaboration and partnership with various leaders and teams; focus on small scale deliverables, building interpersonal relationships, exposure to cross divisional elements of the Wellmark organization 
  • Assist with HCI Intelligence in research requests, and assist with the execution of the monthly newsletter
  • Aid the team with Sharepoint operations, divisional site governance, and maintenance
  • Contribute to Agile Ceremonies and daily tasks related to the Agile Product Operating Model as applied to the HCI Operations Internal Product Development Process
  • Desire to strengthen business acumen in health care industry and self-driven team environment

This internship will start in May of 2026, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines. 

Qualifications

  • Current junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in communication, English, business administration, public health, healthcare management, or related business program.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various business areas   
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent research, problem solving with the ability to develop proactive solutions and presentation skills  
  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to learn new systems quickly 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or office experience
  • Previous experience or interest in health insurance
