Overview:
The Postdoc Affairs team at the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (OGPA) assists
postdocs with resources for a successful start at UVA by providing monthly orientations and
online resources. We also aid in their preparation for professional pursuits within and beyond
academe by offering seminars workshops and advising services. Additionally, our office leads
the planning of the Annual Postdoc Symposium in May and the National Postdoc Appreciation

Eligibility:
- Be enrolled full-time as a graduate student at UVA throughout the time in the position
- Maintain a schedule of 10-15 hours per week. Note: UVA graduate students can only work for up to 20 hours a week inclusive of all assignments.
Specific responsibilities:
The Graduate Student Intern(s) will:
- Promote career and professional development activities available through Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs and its partners.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting of data collected on program participation and assessment (i.e., pre- and post-survey analysis).
- Assist on web content management and event updates on the Postdoc Affairs website.
- Develop marketing materials, flyers, and others for office events and activities.
- Create templates that can be used for marketing materials and aid on the production of postdoc spotlight videos using Canva.
- Help with the development of the Postdoc Newsletter in MailChimp.
- Start and maintain social media presence for the Postdoc Affairs team
- Provide logistics and organizational support for postdoc-related events (National Postdoc Appreciation events, coffee-hours, lunch & learn, etc.)
- Create and update our comprehensive list of resources for postdocs. Additionally, the intern will aid on the development of FAQs and how-to guides for postdocs.
- Previous experience in providing services, writing/editing, data collection and analysis, web content management or communications preferred.
Expectations:
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Graduate Student Intern will be expected
- Demonstrate willingness to take instruction/guidance and meet regularly with a supervisor
- Work effectively as a member of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs team
- Maintain office standards and protocol with respect to processes, confidentiality, and other issues
- Organize and work independently on assigned tasks
- Possess strong organizational, communication, & time management skills
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Possess strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel spreadsheets
- Appreciate and internalize professional standards and ethics
- Be flexible, open-minded, proactive, and maintain a positive attitude
- Support the mission of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs
Preference will be given to applicants who also have:
- Familiarity with Drupal and other website development software programs
- Experience with Mailchimp and/or newsletter content development
- Familiarity with Canva
- Demonstrated experience with internet-based research
- Experience with data visualization and reporting
- Special consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated interest in career advising and professional development programming, and/or the career outcomes of graduate students and postdocs.
Compensation
Up to 20 hours per week at $20 per hour. The OGPA Graduate Student Intern position is
available throughout the academic year, including the fall and spring semesters.
