Your Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Intern Architect to join our interdisciplinary team. This role is ideal for someone with a background in heritage architecture, building retrofits and a deep commitment to sustainable and context-sensitive design. The ideal candidate will have a principal understanding of Building Science concepts and systems, have solid technical abilities, be a skilled problem solver with attention to detail, and strong communication skills. 

You will work closely with senior staff, clients, consultants, and contractors on a variety of projects — from feasibility studies and conservation plans to complex building envelope upgrades and federal heritage property rehabilitation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design sensitive additions and infill projects within heritage contexts
  • Assess building envelope conditions and design/oversee repair strategies
  • Administer construction contracts for heritage rehabilitation projects
  • Conduct heritage planning, feasibility studies, depreciation reports and code compliance reviews
  • Collaborate with engineers, clients, and consultants on sustainable solutions
  • Contribute to research initiatives and knowledge-sharing within the firm

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Understanding of advanced flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, air barriers, and other related systems
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, CAD and/or Revit, Sketchup, and BIM 360 is a plus
  • Project Management skills necessary for concurrent multiple projects
  • Practical knowledge of energy code, rain screen principles, air barriers, and thermal performance
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
  • Specialization in heritage or conservation is an asset.
  • Experience with contract administration and consultant coordination
  • Strong research and writing skills for technical and planning reports
  • Basic understanding of Revit or AutoCad and the use of it as a design tool.
  • Experience with the most recent design software (Sketch-up, Photoshop, and Illustrator, etc.) is preferred.
  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • To participate and collaborate in project team setting. 
  • To engage in creative and critical thought.
  • To interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • To communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Abobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, Newforma, Sefaira, Recent modeling software, 3D Printer, Laser cutter.

Education and Experience

Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science, with a background in Building Science required. Engineering or Architecture license is an asset.

Minimum 5 years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing, and or constructing building envelope systems preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
