As a Pharmacy Intern in our inpatient setting, you will gain hands-on training under the guidance of experienced pharmacists to build the skills needed for a successful career in pharmacy. First-year interns receive foundational training similar to pharmacy technicians, with opportunities to work in core areas such as the carousel and IV room, and IV training provided if not already certified. For those continuing into a second year, the role expands to include clinical experiences such as conducting medication histories, supporting transitions of care, engaging in research and quality improvement projects and shadowing clinical pharmacists. This progressive training pathway is designed to prepare interns for excellence in both technical and clinical aspects of pharmacy practice.

A caregiver in this role will work every 3rd weekend during the school year. Summer expectations will be every other weekend. First and second shifts will begin as early as 7:00am and end around 11:30pm. 3rd shifts may be available to be picked up.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug related issues. 
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate. 
  • Compound and prepare medications for delivery to patient care areas. 
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients. 
  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy Program meeting education requirements to qualify for an Intern License in the State of Ohio OR international pharmacy experience meeting the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Graduate Pharmacy Intern License 
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) before hire
