The Personal Lines Sales & Distribution internship will introduce students to multiple sales disciplines over the course of the summer to develop a holistic perspective on the sales function and our Personal Lines strategic priorities. The scope of this internship will focus on active involvement in research, data analysis, and process management to enable tangible contributions while learning about the broader Sales function and corresponding skill sets. The internship will run for 12 weeks from May 18th-August 7th.
A full-time position within Nationwide, based in Des Moines or Columbus, may be offered contingent upon successful performance in the intern program and available opportunities.
Job Summary
A day in the life of a Personal Lines Sales & Distribution Intern might include:
• Learn and engage in data analysis and data-related projects.
• Effectively interpret, manipulate, and use data to drive recommendations and/or to make a compelling case for change.
• Frequent use of emerging technologies in the insurance sector (i.e., AI, API connections).
• Perform special project work, including utilization of Salesforce.
• Develop and leverage reporting to reflect sales results, identify growth opportunities, and inform areas of focus for our sales teams.
• Regularly engage with Sales team members at all levels to learn the business, understand needs, and build context for the work being performed.
• Learn and participate in Lean Six Sigma problem solving activities and issue resolution processes.
• Support the Sales operation driving resolution of identified opportunity areas.
• Actively participate in Lean huddles through the Personal Lines Sales organization.
• Complete a capstone project: Identify an opportunity area within the Sales function, develop a solution to address the opportunity and present the proposal to Personal Lines Sales leadership team for consideration.
• Collaborate with Sales team members, other Property & Casualty teams, and fellow interns to complete assigned work.
About You
A successful Personal Lines Sales & Distribution Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
• Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Risk Management or Data Analytics preferred.
• Completion of junior year is preferred
• Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
Skills/Competencies
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Detail-oriented with strong organization skills
• Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks
· Exposure to Artificial Intelligence tools
• Team-oriented mindset and collaborative spirit
• Professionalism and accountability
• Basic proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools (i.e., Zoom, Teams, etc.)
• Aptitude for learning on the fly and dealing with ambiguity
Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, it is not usually available for entry level roles.
