Role Purpose

In this Intern role, you will improve product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality, and service). You will support, lead, and/or co-lead multi-disciplined project teams to assist in meeting project milestones and objectives. You will be involved with continuous improvement efforts on several manufacturing lines. We look to you to provide solutions for increased process yield, increased material utilization, decreased costs, improvement to product quality by planning, organizing and implementing projects, and to lead or assist in work packages as part of project team.  You will need to provide regular updates on project status, including design reviews and conduct or contribute to a project critique at completion and share key learning(s).

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet all Environmental, Safety and Health requirements.
  • Develop knowledge of injection molding and the associated manufacturing process and equipment.
  • Assist in day-to-day problem-solving & troubleshooting support to manufacturing operations. Participate in daily production meetings. 
  • Provide general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals) to lead/co-lead continuous improvement projects, cost reduction projects, equipment upgrades, and/or safety upgrades. Apply both analytical concepts and “hands-on” learning.
  • Apply data analytics skills to monitor line performance and analyze trends. Identify root causes of problems, recommend process improvement and cost reduction opportunities.   
  • Utilize the scientific method to solve problems. Seek fundamental understanding through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts. 
  • Generate technical documentation for experiments conducted and changes implemented.
  • Engage cross functionally with engineering, quality and production teams. Interface with operators, technicians, and team leaders to gain a high level of process understanding.
  • Actively engage in project teams and act with urgency to close assignments.
  • Provide project updates, tracking progress, and update action plans as changes and challenges occur.
  • Manage time and resources effectively to meet milestones.
  • Communicate issues and concerns to stakeholders.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • A current student in their Sophomore, Junior or Senior year pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a Master’s student in a similar discipline.
  • Preferred disciplines Mechanical, Chemical, or Plastics/Polymers.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work in Oneonta, NY
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel & PowerPoint
  • Formal problem-solving skills/training
  • Completion of foundational engineering courses

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Six Sigma and/or Statistical software experience
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information.
  • Strong belief in one's own abilities; takes personal responsibility and projects positive self-image.
  • Strong work ethic and committed to accomplishing objectives.
  • Maintains an optimistic, “can do” attitude.

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
