This role will be interacting with the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) Engineering staff, the Value Stream Leadership (VSL), and Operations teams to provide engineering assessments and inputs to the opportunities presented for the improvement and extension of the RAT product line. RAT product supports the emergency power needs of the aircraft. We must deploy from aircraft in moment’s notice to save lives and aid the pilot with power to control the aircraft to landing. We have an interesting and fun environment. We learn a ton and are part of the Power and Controls section of Collins Aerospace.
Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run June-December (including the Fall semester); it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity
What You Will Do:
- Draft technical reports and compile information into PowerPoint, summaries, and work orders to use by other staff and management.
- Employ computer analysis methods to analyze or modify designs in compliance with regulations.
- Conduct multiple experimental trials and stress tests on prototypes of aircraft and aerospace systems & equipment.
- Calculate mathematical models to assist with evaluating equipment
- Run various tests on integrated systems as well as electrical and mechanical equipment
- Develop models and take images of engineering designs and methods
- Applies knowledge of design tools and other principles to technical plans, blueprints, and drawings
- Possesses understanding of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronics, and computer programming
- Handles technical data with discretion and confidentiality
- Complete other tasks and responsibilities as needed
- Preferred Qualifications:
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineer, Aerospace or equivalent.
- Ability to comprehend information presented in writing and work documents
- Ability to type and employ basic computer functions such as Email, Microsoft, and Excel
- Ability to employ active listening skills to understand directions given and ask appropriate questions
- Ability to abide by all safety and hazard regulations and protocols
- Ability to present ideas clearly and work with others to solve problems
- Ability to follow tasks in chronological order and follow steps provided in job instruction sheets
- Able to use analytical and developmental software such as MATLAB, CAD, NX, AutoCAD, RapidREQ, Icepak, Microsoft Visual Basic, and Python is preferred

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
