Project Description:
Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Integrated System Planning (ISP) Organization, specifically, within the Energy Supply & Market (ESM) Modeling department in Denver, CO. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities in one of our ISP groups that provides long-term capacity expansion and production cost modeling used throughout the Company to plan the future of the electric system. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the ISP organization.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Learn to use EnCompass (Yes Energy) and PROMOD (Hitachi) electric generation and transmission simulation software.
- Contribute to various analytical activities supporting external projects, such as Regulatory filings, and internal reporting.
- Long-term electric system planning and analysis
- Assist with updates, data maintenance, and analysis.
This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements
· Currently Graduate student (as of Fall 2026)
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics or similar.
· Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO.
· Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) with possibility of part-time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week)
Preferred Qualifications
· 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
· Experience or Proficiency with data analytics tools.
