Our strategic unit with Collins, Connected Aviation, provides advanced information management systems, products and services that enable the connected aviation ecosystem by bringing together Collins’ unique breadth of aviation products with our smart digital solutions to help us enhance every aspect of the end-to-end travel experience. The Network and Connectivity Engineering (NCE) Team within CAS Engineering has the responsibility for Air Traffic Control and Airline operational data on a secure, high-availability communication system between aircraft and their airline hosts systems and Civil Aviation Authorities.

We're looking for a Systems Engineer Intern to support our aviation communication development needs. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for comprehending customer Statements of Need, developing Technical Requirements, and developing End-to-End System Designs between our customers, both internal and external, and our communication services. YOU will play a pivotal role in this high growth and high visibility area of the Collins Aerospace company. 

What You Will Do:

• You will analyze statements of need and business requirements.

• You will participate with highly technical engineering teams on challenging systems upgrades and features.

• You will help lead this World-Wide communication system into the next generation of architectures and technologies.

• You will provide analysis for the decomposition of customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system requirements and design.

• You will perform analysis of data flows and data logs.

• You will analyze the performance of the system against established systems performance parameters such as latency, availability, and capacity.

• You will develop technical product roadmaps depicting the steps anticipated to migrate from the current state to the targeted future state.

• You will be working collaboratively onsite in our Annapolis, MD facility.

• You will learn how to design solutions and lead innovative software-based systems that will drive the next generation of growth for the aviation industry.

• You will learn the aviation market and how communication systems are critical to airline operations.

• You will learn to develop solutions with cross discipline engineering teams.

• You will learn engineering in a critical, high-availability system.

• You will learn about the myriad systems required to offer a comprehensive communication service, such as communications protocols, billing systems, networking systems, and RF systems.

Qualification You Must Have:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline. 

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position. 

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Knowledge of the commercial aviation industry.

• Data analytical skills

• Experience with engineering reliability and availability.

• Proven communication and collaboration skills to work across internal and external customers (government and commercial).

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
