The Legal Team is seeking an onsite intern for the 10-week Summer 2026 Internship Program at Live Oak Bank in Wilmington, NC.

Position Summary:

The Legal Intern will support the Bank’s Legal Department with a focus on lending and operational matters. This internship offers hands-on experience in financial services law, particularly in loan modification, loan closings, and document management. The intern will work closely with legal counsel and operational teams to gain exposure to the legal and regulatory framework governing banking practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Shadow Loan Teams: Observe and assist the loan modification and loan closing teams to understand the legal processes involved in commercial lending.
  • Document Review & Redaction: Review documents responsive to subpoenas and other legal requests, ensuring sensitive information is properly redacted in compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
  • Template Creation: Assist in drafting and refining legal form templates used in lending operations, including modification agreements, closing documents, and internal checklists.
  • Legal Research: Conduct research on banking regulations, lending compliance, and document retention policies as needed.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general support to the Legal Department, including organizing files, preparing summaries, and attending internal meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Interested in attending an accredited law school.
  • Strong interest in banking, finance, and regulatory law.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The base pay range for this position is $19.23 - $31.25 per hour. Compensation may also include annual bonuses and long-term incentives, subject to various metrics and company policy. A candidate’s salary is determined by several factors including travel, relevant work experience or skills and expertise.
