Position Scope

The R&D Co-op role supports the Technology Development team across a broad range of research activities that improve the current Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology and lead to the development of new DAC technologies. The Technology Development team develops solutions that reduce plant costs and enable new markets and broader commercial opportunities. Major responsibilities of the R&D Co-op role range from conducting experimental studies in the lab, to designing equipment prototypes, to operating and analyzing integrated bench-scale plants.

You'll be a key part of an elite, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers working at the forefront of driving the cost of carbon capture down, which is critical for widespread adoption of DAC. Successful candidates will be driven students with a keen interest in applying their knowledge in chemistry, physics, and engineering to the development of clean technologies.

  • This position is an 8 month or longer co-op term.  Expected start date is January 2026.   
  • This position is onsite and based in Squamish, BC.
  • The work schedule follows a M-F, 40hrs/week schedule.  
  • Relocation support is provided. 
  • This position pays $22-26/hour. 

Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture. 
  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace. 
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Technology Development team with equipment evaluation, design, construction, commissioning, and operation
  • Support the Technology Development team with experimental design and execution, data analysis, and communication of results

Technical:

  • Understand and apply fundamental engineering principles to solve complex, multi-disciplinary problems
  • Perform necessary design calculations when supporting the evaluation of new equipment or instrumentation
  • Perform experiments at laboratory, bench-scale, and pilot scale
  • Assist with experiment design, data analysis, and reporting of results

Education

  • Currently enrolled in Canadian post-secondary institute (3rd, or 4th year, or Masters)
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or Masters co-op program in Chemistry, Physics, or Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering

Key Competencies

  • Understanding of mass transfer, thermodynamics, kinetics, fluid mechanics, mechanical design and other chemistry, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering principles
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and doing hands-on development of equipment
  • Experience operating bench and pilot-scale equipment is an asset
  • Experience evaluating novel equipment and processes is an asset
