Job Description
We are seeking an Engineering Support Service (ESS) co-op to join the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) team and support the development and delivery of user-facing documentation and training for the Land Command Support System (LCSS).
The LCSS provides the Canadian Armed Forces with mission-critical command and control communications capabilities. A highly integrated tactical system composed of communication, networking and information management sub-systems, LCSS is part of every Canadian Army vehicle, weapon platform and headquarters; comprising hardware, firmware and software.
The documentation and training produced by the ILS team is essential – helping the CAF to understand, operate, and optimize the use of the system in the field.
As an ILS co-op, your responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but you can expect to:
- Support the adoption of a single-source publishing tool;
- Support the development of an AI productivity tools;
- Absorb and understand the technical details of the LCSS, and how it will be used, in order to generate user-facing documentation/training;
- Collaborate with the Customer, engineering, mission specialist, and ILS teams in an Agile development environment; and
- Ensure that documentation/training is technically accurate and meets ILS standards – while being easy to understand and written in plain language.
Qualifications
Essential
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program or equivalent in Engineering or Technical writing.
Ideal assets (or a desire to develop in these areas)
- Strong skills with MS Office Suite tools including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint;
- Experience with MadCap Flare or other single-source publishing tools;
- Working knowledge of HTML;
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team;
- Clear and concise communication skills, and the skill to translate technical jargon into plain language;
- A burning desire to understand how things work, and the ability to explain it to non-engineers.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
