Job Title: DRUGSCAN Laboratory Internship

Department: Lab Operations

Location: Horsham, PA

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule: Monday - Friday

SUMMARY

The Laboratory Intern performs accessioning and lab assistant functions while enhancing their hands-on laboratory knowledge in pursuit of a career in laboratory science.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Unpack, sort, and verify specimens received from couriers and law enforcement agencies

  • Label, aliquot, and deliver samples to appropriate testing area; maintain chain-of-custody when moving samples

  • Enter orders and demographic information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)

  • Determine specimen suitability based on established laboratory procedures

  • Resolve problem specimens and follow procedures for specimen storage and disposal Maintain and update secure reporting instructions from clients and third-party administrators

  • Maintain a stocked, organized, and clean workstation

  • Perform data entry of specimen demographic information

  • Perform responsibilities of a Lab Assistant:

  • Prepares and maintains workstations for sample preparation by: filling supplies, labeling testing vessels, filling working solutions, keeping the workspace organized

  • May perform sample aliquoting and general sample handling

  • Tracks inventory for reagents and consumables

  • Maintain testing equipment to perform required product analysis and testing

  • Instrument start up and shut down maintenance and QC

  • Daily, weekly and monthly maintenance

  • Performs cleaning duties as assigned: e.g. workstation cleaning, glassware washing, biohazard trash removal.

  • Manages in house document filing and storage.

  • Prepares document storage boxes for shipment to outside storage company

  • Participate in training, shadowing and development opportunities to expand laboratory science knowledge.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency of and comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Comply with safety rules and regulations to include determining proper handling procedures of samples.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information

  • Follow regulatory rules and guidelines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interest in clinical toxicolog or regulated toxicology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
