Engineering Internship Details

A $1,000/month housing stipend will be provided for those moving more than 45 miles from their home address.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in ELECTRICAL, CIVIL, MECHANICAL OR CHEMICAL Engineering in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
    • Must have completed at least your freshman year.
    • Graduation date of December 2026 or later.
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
    • Willingness and ability to relocate for the summer to one of our engineering internship locations, if necessary.
  • Preferred:
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Interest in the electric utility sector, energy efficiency, and sustainability practices.
    • Effective time management skills.

Day in the Life of an AEP Engineering Intern:

As an engineering intern at AEP, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of energy. Your contributions will bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions that impact our teams and the communities we serve. Here are some of the responsibilities you may take on:

  • Collaborating with project teams and experienced engineers on planning, designing and executing enterprise resource projects to ensure seamless integration from design to construction.
  • Engaging in design reviews, training sessions, knowledge-building projects and constructability assessments to maintain safety and operational standards.
  • Participate in field visits to operational facilities to understand power system operations and assist in inspections and tests.
  • Assisting in the development and analyses of databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards to enhance data-driven decision-making.
  • Supporting documentation for decision-making processes and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance and safety in our services.
  • Embrace AEP’s safety culture by understanding safety guidelines and standards in both office and field environments.
  • Expanding your engineering skills by taking on new challenges.

What You'll Get:
