Orna Therapeutics is a Watertown-based biotechnology startup on a mission to create therapies for diseases inaccessible to existing approaches. Built on novel circular RNA technology developed at MIT, Orna is leading the next wave of RNA therapeutics with our best-in-class expression and delivery platform. We are seeking an exceptional Co-op, TechOps Pharmaceutical Development to join our team. The position will work closely with platform science, discovery, preclinical safety, and TechOps teams for characterization of Orna’s circular RNA and nanoparticle products. The ideal candidate would be a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in a chemistry and/or biology-related field. They should be able to quickly learn and follow protocols, possess strong oral and written communication capabilities, demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, and be adept at problem solving in a fast-paced environment. 


Responsibilities 

  • Learn and execute key analytical techniques for the characterization of novel circular RNA, such as RNA concentration and purity and residuals testing. 
  • Learn and execute key analytical techniques for characterization of lipid nanoparticle formulations, such as particle size, RNA payload concentration, encapsulation, purity, and lipid content. 
  • Maintain routine cell culturing for CMC-bioassay team, including thawing frozen cell vials, cell passaging, and freezing cells for future use. 
  • Aid in the flow cytometry-based potency characterization of drug substance and drug product. 
  • Evaluate the in-use performance and long-term storage and accelerated stability of circular RNA and lipid nanoparticle formulations, including study design, implementation, and analytical testing. 
  • Maintain a well-documented electronic lab notebook to generate and report data. 
  • Responsible for hands-on assistance with good lab practices (ie inventory creation and maintenance; lab organization and safety compliance; equipment tracking, maintenance and service issues; etc). 
  • Contribute to a positive and exciting work environment; contribute to a strong entrepreneurial and creative culture. 

Qualifications 

  • B.S. candidate for equivalent in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biological engineering, biotechnology, or related field. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Windows operating systems, and general file and data management required. 
  • Wet lab experience preferred but not required. 
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and can collaborate on execution of multiple parallel initiatives.
