The Ice, Rain and Stall (IRS) Engineering team based in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking Mechanical Engineering Intern to support continued growth within the product organization.  In this high visibility role, the Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for working on integrated product teams to develop new, advanced IRS products while also supporting existing products in production.  The Mechanical Engineering Intern may be responsible for the mechanical portions in all phases of a development program from requirements development through design and verification testing. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will have access to a world class wind tunnel, environmental test lab, and forensics investigation lab to help our team continue delivering industry leading sensor solutions.  The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter capable of driving tasks and medium size projects to completion on time and on budget.

What You Will Do:

  • Support complex, multi-discipline integrated project teams.
  • Work independently as well as in a small team environment.
  • Generate design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
  • Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.
  • Writing test requests, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.  Support design verification testing and coordinating efforts with the test department.
  • Specify material joining methods and specifications where necessary (i.e. bolted joints, adhesives, brazing, etc.)
  • Work in a lab environment to fabricate and assemble test fixtures and equipment.
  • Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on technical design tasks.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action tasks to solve problems.
  • Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) as well as International Trade Compliance (ITC) regulations and policies.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract 

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Proficient in CAD solid modeling techniques, Creo preferred.
  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
