Program Description:
The Sophomore Career Exploration Internship gives undergraduate sophomores the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get:

Access to learning events with senior leaders from the New York Fed, giving them direct insight into the public service and financial services world
Sophomore interns work in one specific business area or function for ten weeks, and have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank. At the end of the program, students leave with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences that will support them in their long-term careers.
Our Unique Work:
The Research & Statistics Group - Research function at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York conducts
policy-oriented academic research and provides analytic support for the Bank's responsibilities relating to monetary policy, monetary policy execution, banking supervision, payments systems, and other economic and financial issues. As a summer analyst in Research, responsibilities may include:
Assist economists and research associates in the analysis of current public policy issues
and events.
Assist economists and research associates in long-term, academically oriented research
projects.
Conduct econometric analyses intended for Bank publications as well as academic journals.
Programming in statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and MATLAB
How You’ll Make an Impact as a Research & Statistics Intern (Sophomore)
As a summer analyst in Research, you must have a demonstrated interest in economics, public policy, mathematics or statistics, and a strong academic record. Additional requirements include:
Experience using large databases and statistical packages like SAS, Stata, Mat lab and Python
Ability to provide concise, articulate, and insightful economic analysis in written and verbal form.
Good leadership skills with the ability to think strategically and demonstrate a broader viewpoint on assignments
Must have an expected graduation date of Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
An interest in banking, finance, business, economics, or public policy with a strong academic record
Interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the willingness and ability to foster working relationships with a range of stakeholders
Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize information and explain it clearly
Organized and resourceful, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently
Ability to assimilate new information and learn new tools/systems
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
Solid analytical abilities
The Unique Skill Sets We’re Looking For:
A demonstrated interest in finance, accounting, economics, capital markets, business, ethics and compliance, or operational management with a strong academic record and passion for data analysis.
High interest in Finance, Banking, or Economics, with a strong academic record and a passion for public service.
Experience in data analysis and using statistical packages (e.g., R, Stata, Matlab, Julia, SAS, Gauss, TSP, RATS, EViews, PROCSQL), or other computer programming experience (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Acrobat.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Salary Range: Your regular wages for the 10 weeks will be paid on a semi-monthly basis and will be calculated based on an annual salary of $65,600.

This position requires access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information. Access to CSI and FOMC information is limited to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals who meet the definition of “protected individual” under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants. All non-U.S. citizens authorized to access CSI and/or FOMC information must sign a declaration of intent to expeditiously become a lawful permanent resident and thereafter a U.S. citizen when eligible.
