Michigan Millers is seeking a Summer 2026 Commercial Lines Underwriting Intern to join the team in our Lansing office!

This role provides an opportunity to develop and grow real-world insurance skills and knowledge, assist with a variety of projects, and make connections with the Commercial Lines team.

Intern Program Summary:
Michigan Millers and Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our Commercial Lines team; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community.

Requirements

Position Summary:

As our Commercial Lines Underwriting Intern, you will be a key contributor not only within the Underwriting Department, but across the office including departments such as our Audit team, Loss Control, and Claims. In addition to supporting our various teams, you will: 

  • Learn about the Commercial Insurance industry, policy formation, and agency partnerships.
  • Assist with ongoing projects that serve our insured and agents.
  • Perform general clerical tasks for the department.
  • Complete duties and activities covered by specific instructions, standard practices, and established procedures that generally require some interpretation. 
  • Consistently act according to our customer experience standards, including responding quickly; maintaining a positive attitude; building rapport; demonstrating empathy; managing the customer’s expectations; using the proper communication channel for the situation; and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Completed two years of college preferred.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, delegate, and establish/meet deadlines.
  • Interest/Experience in the Insurance Industry.
  • Professional communication skills.

Compensation overview

The base pay offered for this position will be $19.00/hour.
