Job Description
What’s the Market Intelligence & Strategy Team at Wellmark? The team works with stakeholders to define long-term competitive strategy and develop the products and services needed to best serve Wellmark’s diverse customers. By leading annual strategic planning, conducting market intelligence research, creating sales and communications campaigns, and developing next generation products and service, the team must be at once analytical, creative, business savvy, strategic and collaborative in a highly visible role.
What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects you will be contributing to include:
- What competitive pressure will Wellmark face in the future? How can we address the shifting health care landscape through the products and services we offer?
- As costs continue to increase, what steps can Wellmark take to stabilize prices for our members? How are our competitors doing this?
- Based on competitive position, market trends and other factors, help determine how Wellmark membership might change over time
- What innovative products and services are changing the health care landscape? How will Wellmark and their customers be impacted? Should Wellmark find a solution to address shifting customer expectations?
- Support other in-flight projects and presentations meant to inform senior leaders across Wellmark

This internship will start in May of 2026, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines or Sioux Falls office.
Qualifications
- Current sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student studying Finance, Economics, Business Insurance, Business Management, Risk Management, Business Analytics, or related program
- Prior experience in a business setting
- Analytical problem-solving skills
- Excellent research skills and profound curiosity to dig deep to find insights
- Ability to measure and evaluate data
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with the business areas
- Ability to see a task through to completion independently and as a team member
Preferred Qualifications:
- Concentration, Minor, or emphasis in Finance, Mathematics or analytics-related program
- Interest in product development, market intelligence and strategy required
- Focus in other business-related areas considered
