The purpose of the renewable energy internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in industrial technology/occupational safety and health, environmental health & safety (EHS), criminal justice/criminology, emergency management, or a similar field. Interns will be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the energy business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly.

  • Must be a college student, sophomore or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master’s degree program in industrial technology/occupational safety and health, environmental health & safety (EHS), criminal justice/criminology, emergency management, or related field
  • Solid computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective project management skills
  • Effective analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete projects within tight deadlines
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer background check and drug screen

Access Control Management

  • Assist with badge provisioning and de-provisioning for employees and contractors
  • Review access logs to identify anomalies or unauthorized access attempts
  • Support multi-factor authentication (MFA) and identity verification processes

Video Surveillance & Monitoring

  • Conduct camera health checks to ensure operational status
  • Review and tag security footage related to incidents or suspicious activity
  • Help verify camera map accuracy and coverage

Cyber-Physical Security Integration

  • Learn how physical access systems (e.g., badge readers) integrate with network security tools
  • Support audits by correlating badge system logs with SIEM alerts

Incident Response Support

  • Document incidents in ticketing systems (e.g., Remedy)
  • Participate in tabletop exercises, such as GridEx scenarios, to simulate real-world threats

Compliance & Policy

  • Assist with NERC CIP or internal security audits
  • Review and help update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for access control and surveillance

Safety Recordkeeping

  • Assist with recordkeeping of monthly task engagements and the new monthly and quarterly self-assessments
  • Assist in employee profiling for both regulator and stakeholder required 

Safety Program Review

  • Facilitate designated personnel review required safety programs 
  • Redbook audits which include emergency action plans
