Under the direct supervision of pharmacist, the pharmacy technician apprentice functions as a trainee and follows established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy department. The pharmacy technician apprentice will gain knowledge in packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintain pharmacy records. The apprentice will successfully complete and receive a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months.Job Details

Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology offers one of the few accredited, hospital-based Pharmacy Technician programs in the U.S. Through an 18-week accelerated apprenticeship, students receive hands-on training in inpatient and outpatient settings, learning skills such as medication preparation, distribution, inventory control, customer service, and recordkeeping. Graduates earn a diploma in Pharmacy
Technology and are prepared to take the national certification exam.
A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday between 6:45am to 3:15pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding).
Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.
Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.
Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the student handbook.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy upon hire
Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months
Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
