GeneralSurgeryAdvancedPracticeProviderFellowship
TheGeneralSurgeryAdvanced Practice Provider Fellowship atUTSouthwestern MedicalCenter isa one-year,comprehensive trainingprogram designed toprepare advanced practice providers(APPs)forcareersinsurgicalsubspecialties.Thefellowship isopento nurse practitioners(NPs)withRNFirstAssist(RNFA)certificationandphysicianassistants(PAs)who have completed a graduate-levelprogram and demonstrate a stronginterest in surgical care.
Duringthe fellowship,participants gain hands-on clinical experience across a broadrangeof surgical subspecialties,includinggeneral surgery (elective andemergent),gynecology, transplant surgery, surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, surgicalintensivecare,andthoracic surgery.Fellowsworkcloselywithattendingsurgeons,experienced APPs,andinterdisciplinary team members and participate in all phases of patient care, from preoperative evaluation through postoperative follow-up.
The curriculum combines immersive clinicaltrainingwith structured didactic education, hands onworkshops, andspecialty-specificconferencesandrounds.Fellowsalsoparticipateinquality improvementinitiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. Upon completionof the program, graduates areequipped withtheskills and clinical judgment necessary topractice independently or serve ashighly effective members of surgical teams.
SurgicalAPPFellowsarefull-timeemployeesofUTSouthwesternMedicalCenterandreceivea comprehensive benefits package, includingpaidtimeoff,continuing education funds,andlow cost medical, dental,vision, andlifeinsurance. Fellows receive acompetitive annualsalary of $95,000.Thefellowship programisscheduledtobeginon Monday, April 5, 2027.

JOBDUTIES
- Perform comprehensive patientevaluations anddevelop treatment plansin collaboration with the surgical team.
- Assist inthe operatingroom, includingbut not limited to performing surgical first assist duties andprovidingintraoperativecare.
- Conduct dailypatient rounds,document progressnotes, andcommunicate withpatients and their families regarding the patient's care plan.
- Participateinon-callcoverageasassignedbythesurgicalteam.
