Are you passionate about ensuring ethical business practices and protecting organizational integrity? The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Compliance Co-op/Intern for the Winter 2026 (January to April) work term to provide support for our dynamic compliance team in maintaining the highest standards of regulatory adherence and risk management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our Compliance team is part of the Legal Affairs department and in various ways, collaborates with many other departments within BCI. The main objective for Compliance is to foster a culture of prudent risk management and ethical behaviour to support and advance BCI’s asset management goals with trust and integrity that aligns with the Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct. We provide objective and independent risk management and compliance services that protect our client’s assets, safeguard BCI’s reputation, and facilitate the achievement of BCI’s strategic objectives.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Compliance team consists of a Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, two Directors, two Managers, one Team Lead, five Analysts and an Administrative Assistant. Together we support and manage the Compliance program at BCI. You will also get the opportunity to work with other groups, as required, within the organization such as the Public Market, Private Market, Technology, and Legal.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Work under the supervision of different Compliance personnel to assist with various projects

  • Conduct regular investment pooled fund monitoring tasks

  • Conduct personal trading reconciliations and conflict of interest screening

  • Assist with documenting current and new compliance monitoring procedures

  • Research, ad-hoc projects and complete tasks as assigned by the team

  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the Compliance program using existing technology solutions and provide further enhancements as appropriate (i.e. dashboards)

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • A dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn

  • A basic knowledge of business and investments

  • Has an interest in investment management

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail

  • Strong research skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to use Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook

  • Familiarity with Bloomberg would be an asset

  • Competitive pay: $2,330.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,155.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,330.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree and $2,155.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
