Your Opportunity
In this position as a Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment. The role of a Co-op Student is to perform a variety of selected tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills within the electrical discipline. Assignments will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Technician or Engineer. A Co-op Student will perform a variety of tasks which may include preparing drawings and assisting with the plans and designs of electrical systems including but not limited to power distribution, fire alarms, low voltage controls, telecommunications / data, lighting, and security in healthcare, industrial, pharmaceutical, commercial, education, institutional and other types of facilities. Full scope of the Co-op's workload depends on prior work history. Students will also have the opportunity to accompany senior staff to construction sites and pre-design site visits.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
- Performs Revit design for the electrical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs.
- Works with architectural, interior, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer.
- Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer.
- Performs basic calculations to analyze and design individual building electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Basic understanding of Revit and AutoCad, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
- Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Newforma and lighting calculation software
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering required & EIT preferred. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
