Job Description

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T) is the intersection of technical excellence and business impact.

Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is widely used to measure particle size and aggregation in protein solutions. It is noninvasive and fast, but the results are often limited by low size resolution, and the data can be easily affected by particle contamination during the sample handling process. Recent advances in dynamic light scattering (DLS) data analysis for estimating size heterogeneity in antibody solutions suggest that DLS could potentially serve as an orthogonal tool to the traditional size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)-based method for aggregation analysis. This approach could also become a rapid process analytical technique for biologics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilize the dynamic light scattering instrument in the bioanalytical laboratory

  • Prepare antibody samples (e.g., Humira, Skyrizi) with varying levels of aggregation

  • Analyze samples using both dynamic light scattering and SEC assays

  • Assess the correlation between results from dynamic light scattering and SEC assays

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled currently in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or other related fields.

  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expected graduation date between December 2026 – July 2027
  • Experience with protein analysis techniques such as: SEC-HPLC

  • Knowledge of dynamic light scattering is a plus

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and adaptability

  • Effective problem-solving and time management abilities
