About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Lean Intern to join our manufacturing operations team. This internship offers hands-on experience in Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies. The intern will play a key role in standardizing work processes, supporting kaizen activities, leading problem-solving activities, and driving operational excellence across production lines.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lean Intern, you will:
- Conduct Time Studies: Observe and record cycle times for various operations to establish baseline data.
- Document Standard Work: Create and maintain Standard Work Charts and Standard Work Combination Tables for multiple production lines.
- Support Kaizen Events: Actively participate in at least one kaizen team, contributing to problem-solving and improvement initiatives.
- Identify and Implement Improvements: Analyze assigned areas for waste and inefficiencies, propose solutions, and assist in implementation.
- Lead and Support Problem Solving: Facilitate and contribute to structured problem-solving efforts using Problem Solving Process (PSP) and A3 methodologies, ensuring root causes are identified and countermeasures are effectively implemented.
- Visual Management: Develop and update visual controls and performance boards to support daily management systems.
- Engage with Operators: Collaborate with frontline team members to validate standard work and ensure sustainability of improvements.
- Support 5S Initiatives: Assist in organizing workspaces and maintaining cleanliness and order through 5S audits and improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- At least Sophomore standing at the time of application
- Must be returning to school at the conclusion of the internship
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, and PDCA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools.
