Team Overview: The Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) team is situated within the Advanced Cyber Initiatives branch and Information Security Division of Navy Federal’s Security Department. The Security Department is responsible for the monetary safety of its members and employees. The SOAR team’s primary responsibilities are to improve operational agility by streamlining core processes and automating with intelligence allowing better decisions and faster response. Improve the effectiveness of security processes by implementing automated solutions that accelerate outcomes and unlock capacity for other risk buy-down activities.
The Summer Associate will work in a flexible, hybrid manner or remote based upon location. Responsibilities will include hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations, automation development, and data analysis. This role involves close collaboration with engineers and program managers to identify and implement automation opportunities that enhance operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be skilled in use-case analysis, workflow mapping, and data-driven strategy development. They will also be responsible for documenting technical processes, making process improvement recommendations, and contributing to the team’s strategic and operational activities.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Cyber Security, Software Engineering, or Computer Science
- Familiarity with Process Improvement methodologies
- Experience with research, analysis, and data driven outcomes
- Familiarity with the creation of automation playbooks
- Experience using coding languages such as: Python, JavaScript, or Java
- Ability to adapt to new technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and think outside of the box
- Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Knowledge of Automation and SOAR platforms is a plus
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM

- Collaborate with engineers and program managers to identify automation opportunities

- Become integrated into and participate in the day-to-day strategy, analysis, and operations of the team
