Where You’ll Work

This Internship will be working with the Prospect Analytics Department with a focus on providing reporting and analytical support for the finance, clinical, sales, and provider focused solutions. This team utilizes pharmacy data to gather insights on prospective clients. The intern will support departmental tasks and will be exposed to data analytics to enhance insights.  During the summer internship, you will have the opportunity to collaborate within your department and across the business while learning from some of our brightest and most innovative employees in your area of focus.

What You Will Do

Real work: Over the course of your internship, you’ll be assigned real business problems that challenge your analytical and technical skills while helping you build industry knowledge. Your work will also allow you to make direct contributions to our mission and company goals.

Example projects/experiences:

  • Automate routine data load activities and configure workflows for scheduled runs.
  • Strengthen an outlier detection process in claims analysis by leveraging statistical methods and refining reporting output in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct an in-depth analysis of GLP-1 claims to identify variations by indication (diabetes vs. weight loss), quantify each category’s cost contribution, and examine comorbidity trends to highlight relationships between GLP-1 utilization and other common conditions.
  • Gain valuable insights into the pharmacy industry and data analytics, enhancing your understanding of both.
  • Conduct research on key topics related to pharmacy data and analytics and present your findings to the team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with different teams to support the analytics department in delivering high-quality insights and solutions.
  • Participate in hands-on projects that will directly impact the business and help drive strategic decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Rising junior or senior working towards a bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred majors include Business Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Informatics, Statistics, or any related quantitative field.
  • A GPA of 3.0 or above strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with SQL is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to AWS, Python, or R is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to think analytically.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; with comfortability using Webex and other virtual tools to connect with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • A self-starter who is eager to learn, acquire new skills, and take on challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information

  • Location: This is an in-office internship based at either the Morris Plains office (115 Tabor Road, Morris Plains, NJ 07950) or the St. Louis office (One Express Way, St. Louis, MO 63121).
  • Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa support including H-1B, CPT/OPT/STEM, etc., now or in the future.
  • Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 10 weeks beginning May 18, 2026. Working hours are Monday – Friday.
  • Compensation: For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate between $26.00 and $27.50 an hour depending on relevant factors, including major and year of study.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
