Job Description
Western Digital is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students to join our Information Technology (IT) organization for a 12-week paid internship during Summer 2026. Interns will gain hands-on experience in one of several specialized areas within IT, including Workflow Automation, DevOps/MLOps, IT Security, and Software Engineering.

Potential Internship Tracks
Interns will be placed based on interest, skills, and business needs in one of the following areas:
🔧 Workflow Automation
Support automation initiatives using tools like ServiceNow, Moveworks, and AI.
Collaborate with teams to identify inefficiencies and design self-service solutions.
Analyze workflow performance and contribute to documentation and training materials.
⚙️ DevOps & MLOps
Learn and contribute to AI/ML model deployment, monitoring, and analytics.
Explore AI Agent development and automation for engineering workflows.
Gain exposure to tools like Git, Docker, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.
🔐 IT Security
Assist in implementing risk management frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST).
Participate in security assessments, data analysis, and reporting.
Support business continuity planning and collaborate on security audits.
💻 Software Engineering
Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications.
Work with technologies such as SQL, Python, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
Collaborate on data modeling, entity relationship diagrams, and prototyping innovative solutions.
Use tools like GitHub or Bitbucket for collaborative coding and documentation.
These roles will be based in our offices in San Jose and Irvine, CA. Candidates who will not require relocation to the San Jose or Irvine areas will be prioritized in the process.
IT internships at Western Digital are primarily in-person, up to 3 days per week. These positions are full-time (40 hours/week) and paid hourly. The hourly pay for this position will range between $25-42/hour based on year in school and other factors. Work time outside of normal business hours (9am-5pm PDT) may be requested as a part of your internship.
Qualifications
Required:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
Basic knowledge of programming/scripting (e.g., Python, Shell, JavaScript).
Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD, or security frameworks.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Right to work in the U.S. without requiring future visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B).
Preference given to candidates who do not require relocation to San Jose, CA, or Irvine, CA.
Preferred:
Academic or personal projects in DevOps, AI/ML, automation, cybersecurity, or software engineering.
Experience with tools like ServiceNow, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL, Tableau, or ML frameworks.
GitHub or portfolio showcasing relevant work.
