Theinternships based in Santa Clara, California offera unique opportunity for students passionate about hardware design, integration, and control systems within robotics. Interns will work across electrical, mechanical, and control domains; supporting the development, testing, and troubleshooting of innovative surgical robotic platforms that improve patient outcomes worldwide.

About the Role

As a Robotics Hardware Intern, you will be involved in hardware design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Responsibilities will vary depending on the specific project or role, and interns may work in hardware design, mechanical assembly, control system implementation, or testing.

Note: This track emphasizes hardware and control system development, integration, and troubleshooting. Interns will work closely with software and controls teams to develop cohesive, reliable robotic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test electrical circuits or mechanical assembliesfor robotic platforms.

  • Support hardware integration, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation efforts.

  • Collaborate with software and controls teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.

  • Perform system testing, characterization, and debugging to ensure safety, performance, and reliability.

  • Assist in designing and building prototypes, fixtures, or test setups.

  • Document hardware designs, test procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts in hardware design and system performance.

Responsibilities will be tailored based on the specific project or role within this internship track.

Role Variability

Note: This internship track covers a range of hardware-related roles, including electrical design, mechanical assembly, and testing. Responsibilities will vary depending on the specific project, team, or role, providing a broad experience in robotics hardware development.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university or college program throughout the internship duration (not necessarily taking classes). Pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree.

  • University student status: Undergrad Sophomore or higher.

  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) and during hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 reflective of all coursework

  • Commitment to June 1 – August 21, 2026, or June 22 – September 4, 2026, term dates to align with cohort

  • Target majors include Aerospace Engineering, Automation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Robotics Engineering or closely related field.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with electrical circuit design, PCB layout, or hardware prototyping.

  • Mechanical design experience, including CAD modeling, assembly, or testing.

  • Familiarity with control systems, sensors, actuators, or embedded hardware.

  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system troubleshooting.

  • Experience with hardware testing, calibration, or validation.

  • Ability to work closely with software/controls teams to develop integrated systems.

  • Passion for healthcare innovation and robotics.

  • Permanent US work authorization without the need for sponsorship now, or in the future (The company does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status. Students currently in the country on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT require future sponsorship).

The expected pay range for this position is between $31.00 per hour and $59.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
