DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 12 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 80 renewable energy projects in 24 states.

About the role

DESRI seeks a creative, analytical, and forward-thinking individual to join as an AI Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence and automation can drive innovation within a leading renewable energy company.

As an AI Intern, you’ll collaborate with teams across DESRI to identify opportunities where AI tools and data-driven insights can enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and improve decision-making.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about AI integration in business processes, enjoys problem-solving, and wants hands-on experience applying emerging technologies in a real-world corporate environment.
The internship can be based in our New York or Denver offices. Off-cycle availability (outside of the traditional summer internship window) will be considered.

What you'll do

As an AI Intern, you will help DESRI explore, pilot, and implement intelligent solutions across multiple business functions. Depending on your interests and skills, your work may include:

• Supporting AI tool research and implementation, including evaluating and testing generative AI or automation platforms.
• Assisting with process optimization projects.
• Developing or refining prompt templates, workflows, or dashboards that enhance team productivity.
• Conducting data analysis to generate insights from internal datasets and help inform strategic decisions.
• Partnering with cross-functional teams to identify AI use cases that align with DESRI’s goals and compliance standards.
• Assisting in training employees on responsible AI use, tool adoption, and emerging best practices.

You’ll work closely with DESRI stakeholders who are driving innovation in how AI is integrated into business operations. Throughout the internship, you’ll receive mentorship, participate in learning and development opportunities, and have the chance to present your projects and findings to leadership.

Qualifications

• We’re interested in highly analytical, accomplished students. Intellectually curious individuals with well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, analytical acumen, and an entrepreneurial mindset will excel in this role.
• A proven record of academic and/or professional achievement is required.
• The ability to collaborate well with a small team, keen organizational skills when working on multiple projects, and a high level of motivation are vital to this role.
• Demonstrated interest in and experience with the renewable energy sector is required.
• Preference will be given to undergraduate or graduate students who are in their final year of full-time study.
• The pay for undergraduates participating in this internship is $5,000 monthly with a $5,000 housing stipend. MBA interns are paid $8,000 monthly with a $5,000 housing stipend.
