Title: Human Resources Intern

Supervisor: Chief Human Resources Officer

Department: Human Resources 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Principle duties and responsibilities

  1. Performs essential duties for the Chief Human Resources Officer and Human Resources Department, and other Department Directors to help carry out the organization’s strategic plan. 
  2. Assists the Human Resources Department with maintaining personnel files, including collecting updated licensures and certifications, scanning documents into the payroll system and filing the original paperwork in the employees’ personnel files.
  3. Assists the Human Resources Department with monthly employee orientation. 
  4. Assists the Human Resources Department with updating job postings, including the online communication board, physical bulletin boards and works closely with the Marketing department to advertise job postings on social media.
  5. Assists the Human Resources Department with employee communication as necessary, this includes written and verbal communication. 
  6. Works closely with the Marketing department to help coordinate various employee events.  
  7. Serves on various committees as assigned.
  8. Ensure patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.  
  9. Responsible for ensuring the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
  10. Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools (TeamSTEPPS, Just Culture, etc).
  11. Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities

  1. Requires basic ability to use computer and office equipment. Organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to think critically are necessary. This is typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  2. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to protected and sensitive information.
  3. Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
  4. Ability to immediately respond to common inquires and complaints from patients, employees, and regulatory agencies.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  6. Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precaution protocols and when to apply during principle duties and responsibilities.

Working conditions

  1. Works in a normal office work environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
  2. Spends majority of the day seated, completing deskwork, computer work, or spending time in meetings, up to 90% of the shift. May transport reams of paper from Materials Management, carrying 10 pounds of paper 150-250 feet. Boxes weighing up to 38 pounds are used for paperwork and are needed to be stacked and transported as needed. Carts from Materials Management are used to transport paperwork for open enrollment, requiring 20 pounds of horizontal force 200 feet in distance, only a few times per year. 10-pound files are placed onto shelves of varying heights, from 1 inch off the floor to 66 inches high depending on if placing in cabinets or shelves. During specific events, such as the Legacy Fundraiser or annual employee events, totes are used to transport equipment and information. The totes are stored in the facility's garages, carrying up to 40 pounds distances of 100 feet.
