Primary Objectives of Position: (Spring)
Trans Ova Genetics is seeking 2 Professional Services Interns in our Plains region to assist with the beef embryo transfer season. This internship is designed to give students who have a passion for the animal science and reproduction industry, hands-on and real-world experience in reproductive technologies. The primary duty of a Professional Service Intern is to assist veterinarians in performing embryo transfers, conventional embryo flushing, and in-vitro fertilization procedures in both a clinic setting and on farm. Other duties include donor and recipient handling, data entry and assisting embryologist in the handling of fresh and frozen embryos.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Provide excellent client service both in a clinic and on-farm setting
- Maintain a professional image reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position
- Prepare and travel with Professional Service Teams for on-farm transfer trips, including extended overnight stays
- Prepare collection and transfer areas for procedures
- Keep production areas clean and well-kept
- Maintain accurate records of procedures and data entry
- Maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail while performing chute-side and lab related tasks
- Follow Trans Ova’s Standard Operating Procedures and policies
- Low-stress handling of primarily mature beef cattle and some dairy heifers in holding yards and working facilities
- Participate in learning opportunities including hands-on wet labs, book club, journal club and case-study project
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate students must have completed their sophomore year and preferably a reproductive physiology course before the internship starts.
- Current undergraduate (associate or bachelor's degree), recent graduates, graduate students, and veterinary students are encouraged to apply
- Degrees of study should include animal science, pre-veterinary medicine, agricultural business, or related field
- Experience with advanced reproductive technologies is recommended but not required
- Excellent cattle handling with manual or hydraulic chutes
- Ability to work in adverse/outdoor conditions
- Good physical mobility and above average strength/conditioning
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and be on one’s feet balking or standing for long periods of time
- Ability to travel, have a valid driver’s license and able to operate a company vehicle
