What You’ll Be Doing

Come join us at CIBC Pension Investment Management (PIM) team for a dynamic work term – learn about asset management business and contribute in a meaningful way to our success. We are a small team of investment professionals focused on managing pension assets for tens of thousands of current and former CIBC employees. You will be exposed to a variety of professional fields, and work on tasks across a spectrum of quant areas – developing internal tools using SQL and other programming languages, leveraging your Excel and VBA skills to maintain existing set of reports and develop new ones, use extensive external datasets for quantitative investment analysis, portfolio construction and asset allocation. You will have transparency into our portfolio of assets and have an opportunity to share insights have your ideas implemented directly impacting performance of the fund.

Important Information

  • You must be currently enrolled in post-secondary education to be eligible, however, you do not need to be in a registered Co-Op program to be considered for this role. Specialization in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics major or similar is strongly preferred.

Who You Are

  • You are a university student in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics major or similar.

  • You give meaning to data. You have a strong knowledge of SQL database programming language, your are proficient in MS Excel and VBA; more generally, you have experience working with large datasets.

  • You can demonstrate experience with front-end software development using JavaScript and have had exposure to visualization and graphical user interface libraries and tools such as Power BI, Tableau, DevExpress.

  • You’ve had some exposure to quantitative finance, portfolio construction, return calculations, indexing and benchmarking.

  • You can demonstrate experience reading financial statements and you understand the basics of accounting.
