The Cropping Systems Team within Seed Product Development is seeking a 6-month Field Research Intern at our research center in Johnston, IA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to conduct research on a perennial ground cover crop in corn/soybean rotation, oilseed cropping systems and intercropping systems. In this role, you will partner with scientists in R&D, breeders, university collaborators and non-profit organizations to optimize agronomic practices, improve resource use and shape the future of cropping systems.
Your job will include field activities such as assisting with planting/harvest, leading data collection activities, including plant and soil sampling, phenology note-taking, and digital imaging. You will learn about data management and data analysis and visualization. You will be mentored by a corn or soybean breeder and research scientist and will be responsible for designing and executing a research project tailored to your skills and interests during your internship.
In addition to conducting research with the Cropping Systems Team, you will have the opportunity to learn about the diverse array of research activities focused on corn and soybean breeding at the research station. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have exposure to scientists in a diversity of fields, thus this position provides excellent experience that will prepare you for graduate education or to full-time positions in the public or private sector.
What You Need:
- Junior, senior, or Master of Science, in Agronomy, Ag Business, Biology, Ecology, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Genetics, Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
- Interest in graduate work or careers in agricultural research, data science and/or agriculture engineering.
- Experience working in R or Python for data analysis and visualization is a plus.
- Must be able to work in varying environments to conduct field activities such as planting, harvest, and data collection.
Starting date: Anytime between early February 1st to end of March, 2026
