Our Interns work a hybrid schedule and spend some days working on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village. Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from June 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NE is looking for enthusiastic students with ambition and a passion for Data! These internships serve as a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience in specific areas of interest and learn Agile best practices in a fun and rewarding environment.
What You'll Do:
Duties based on area of assignment.
Data Science: The Data Analytics Intern will apply artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to real-world data problems using modern platforms like Databricks Genie. Responsibilities include building and deploying machine learning models using Python, Spark, and ML flow within Databricks, exploring generative AI capabilities, and integrating them into analytics workflows. The intern will collaborate with data scientists and engineers to enhance predictive analytics and automation.
Data Analytics: The Data Analytics Intern will serve on a highly collaborative team delivering health data analytics and informatics for groups, providers, members, and internal leadership. This position will use data to solve puzzles, explore generative AI capabilities and tell a consistent data story using technologies such as Power BI, R, Excel, and SQL.
Data Governance: As a Data Governance intern, you’ll get the opportunity to learn about and apply principles of data governance, including enforcement of data management standards, documentation of metadata, and application of data quality measures, among other responsibilities. This position relies on close collaboration both within our team and across business and technical teams in our organization. SQL, Databricks, Power BI, various Microsoft applications, and other tools are all useful in this position, and further expansion into and use of AI is an area our team in exploring.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- Be enrolled full-time in college pursuing a degree (preferably in Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Administration).
- Desire for growth and advancement in the area of Data Analytics, Data Science, and Governance.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn.
- A positive attitude and desire to have fun at work.
The most qualified candidates will also possess some or all of the following:
- Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Power BI, R, and/or SQL.
- Interest in AI/ML concepts such as supervised learning.
- Familiarity with Python, Databricks, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Curiosity about ethical AI, model interpretability, and responsible data use.
