Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Power Electronics Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will work alongside our Power Electronics Engineer, contributing to the electrified components of our electric air compressor such as an 800V Inverter.

This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative engineering environment and make a meaningful impact on the development of innovative products.

The internship is a part of project developed across three teams, electric machine design team, motor control team and power electronics team.

The intern will be in charge of the development of a 800V multi phases inverter from theory by simulation and calculation up to define the right components to be used in case of prototype build.

Optimizing a high-power density & high voltage fuel cell compressor inverter design with high targets of efficiency and strict automotive EMC requirements while maintaining cost effective solutions is mandatory for ensuring competitive product design and development.

In this thesis, the aim is to assess at the electrical fuel compressor system level the next generation of e-machine & power electronics topologies that will allow for better efficiency, EMC and lifetime of components while maintaining cost effectiveness compared to a three-phase two-voltage level classical system.

Key Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with the Power Electronics Engineer and the development team to contribute to the electrified components of the electric air compressor.

· Understand the work done so far by machine design and motor control teams and build on it.

· Based on ongoing existing technical and economic study conducted on multilevel topologies for high power (30-60 kWdc), high voltage (800-1000Vdc) applications; contribute to final trade-off and technico-economical topology down selection and pre-design.

· Minimize design change compared to the existing 800V inverter platform and propose preliminary design schematic.

· Provide detailed design justification in terms of Block diagram, schematic, eBoM, PCBA, simulation, Worst-Wase analysis (WCA)…

· Document all work conducted, ensuring comprehensive records of design.

Qualifications and Skills:

· Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

· Strong understanding of power electronics principles and their practical application.

· Strong understanding of DC-DC (Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost, Flyback…) and DC-AC conversion topologies.

· Familiar with different semi-conductor switch technologies (BJT, MOSFET and IGBT).

· Familiar with following development environments: LTspice, PSpice or any other spice tool, Altium Designer, Matlab/Simulink…

· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

· Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

· Eagerness to learn and contribute to a dynamic work environment.

Education:

Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Mechatronics Engineering, Control Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering).

Experience:

No prior professional experience required; however, coursework or projects related to electrical engineering are a plus.
