THE ROLE 

The Industrial Design Intern supports the team in conceptualizing new, modified, or improved products using 2D and 3D tools. The role includes creating deliverables such as sketches, renderings, 3D models, and presentations. Through this position, you will develop an understanding of customer requirements and translate them into design solutions. This role collaborates closely with engineering throughout vehicle development to integrate styling and branding while ensuring strong customer value.

YOUR IMPACT

As anIndustrial Design Intern, your experience may include:

  • Generating fresh ideas through sketches, models, and visualizations of new product concepts

  • Developing deliverables such as renderings, 3D models, and presentations to communicate design intent

  • Collaborating with engineers to ensure design vision is carried through development and production

  • Exploring mixed reality, AI-assisted design, and rapid prototyping to expand creative exploration

  • Translating customer needs into design solutions that balance usability, styling, and brand identity

  • Contributing to design reviews and offering perspective to influence future products

  • Creating presentations that showcase design thinking and outcomes

  • Assisting with digital and physical prototyping to validate concepts and usability

  • Supporting the Oshkosh visual brand language across vehicles and product lines.

  • Working with cross-functional partners in engineering, marketing, and manufacturing

  • Adapting to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and detail

  • Researching trends, mixed reality tools, AI applications, emerging technologies, and competitor products for inspiration

  • Growing as a designer through mentorship, feedback, and opportunities to present work

MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS

  • Student working towards a bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Product Design, Transportation Design, or related field.

  • Willing to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the summer 2026 internship. Summer housing is available to interns whose permanent address is greater than 50 miles from their work location

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficiency in 2D sketching to convey design concepts (analog and digital)

  • Working knowledge in Photoshop, Illustrator or SketchbookPro

  • Experience with 3D modeling and rendering (Alias, Rhinoceros, Maya/Vray, Blender,Keyshot)

  • Awareness of current and future automotive and transportation design trends

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure that conceptual designs can be built efficiently

  • Experience with rapid prototyping and physical modeling

  • Excellent 3D visualization skills

  • Ability to leverage VR and other virtual tools for design exploration and communication

Pay Range:

$18.00 - $37.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
