Internship Details

  • Duration: 11 weeks, full-time
  • Dates of Internship: June 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026
  • Location: Durham, North Carolina
  • Hours: Monday-Friday 40hrs/week
  • Eligibility: Preferred candidates are rising juniors and seniors (Dec 2026 through June 2028 graduation) who are currently enrolled in a relevant degree program; however, all current students pursuing related studies are encouraged to apply.

About the Team

Internship Summary

This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in oncology research, molecular diagnostics, and data analysis within a leading life-sciences organization. The intern will work closely with members of Labcorp Oncology’s medical and scientific teams to support ongoing laboratory and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the organization, review, and analysis of molecular and clinical datasets related to oncology testing.
  • Conduct literature searches and prepare summaries of emerging biomarkers, cancer pathways, and molecular assays.
  • Support the evaluation and interpretation of genomic and transcriptomic data under the guidance of scientific mentors.
  • Participate in data visualization and results presentation, helping to prepare figures and reports for internal scientific discussions.
  • Collaborate with laboratory scientists and clinicians to gain exposure to translational oncology research and diagnostics workflows.
  • Learn how molecular data are integrated into patient care decisions through precision oncology testing.

Education, Qualifications & Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related life-sciences field.
  • Strong interest in oncology, genomics, and translational research, with future goals of attending medical school or graduate school.
  • Foundational understanding of molecular biology and genetics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data analysis or visualization tools (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R, or Python) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Prior experience in a research or clinical laboratory (academic or professional) preferred.

Additional Information

This is an on-site internship located at Labcorp’s 10 Moore Drive campus in Durham, NC. The position provides direct exposure to oncology research and molecular diagnostics, ideal for students seeking to build a foundation for MD, PhD, or MD/PhD training.

Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.  Casual, PRN & Part Time employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours are eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan only. For more detailed information, please click here
