The internship program offers assignments to optimize your skills and experience while giving you exposure to multiple business areas.

As an Investments IT Application Engineer Intern, you will get the opportunity to expand your IT understanding beyond the classroom in a dynamic environment, where technology and business come together to deliver valuable software essential to daily operations. You will collaborate daily with Scrum teams and participate in an agile, fun, and collaborative environment to help refine skills learned through academic experiences, all while learning more about how we work here at Thrivent.

  • New development and maintenance work in Java and in ETL and BI tools

  • Analysis and problem solving of various of application issues – web-based, batch scripting, ETL, or vendor package support

  • Testing a variety of applications and system integrations

  • Effective data management and database design

  • Become knowledgeable and apply Thrivent’s processes and standards for the development and deployment of software applications in the finance services industry.

Position Requirements

  • Currently a Junior (Dec. 2026 or May 2027 graduation date) pursuing an undergraduate degree Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS, or Math

  • A proven history of excellent academic performance (GPA 3.0+)

  • Java development (or similar language) with a basic understanding of application development and foundational database knowledge

  • Disciplined, with strong personal management and organization skills

  • Strong problem identification and analytical skills

  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work in the United States for indefinite period without sponsorship

The applicable hourly wage range for this full-time role is $27.00-$30.00 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important. ​
