POSITION: NUTRITION ASSOCIATE INTERN
DEPARTMENT: MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE
SHIFT: AS NEEDED / 8 HOURS PER TWO WEEKS
STATUS: PRN, AS NEEDED
FACILITY: MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Nutrition Assistant Intern assists MFM physicians and nurses in developing nutrition care plans through assessment with patient, coordination with specialty teams, implementation with patient, monitoring of patient, and ongoing evaluation of patient. Assistance with detailed and specific documentation in the patient's electronic health record with MFM clinicians is required for transparency and overall patient care planning. With MFM providers, the intern will act as a resource for nutrition expertise and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to meet patient care needs and care plans. The MFMUG nutrition assistant intern will help demonstrate knowledge of current medical nutrition therapy (MNT), current principles of nutrition support, nutrition counseling skills, detailed diabetes education, and presentation skills. The ideal candidate has strong time management skills, good critical thinking ability, good presentation and teaching skills, and the capability to work independently and collaboratively.
We provide comprehensive obstetrical care for women in the Miami Valley area with complicated or high-risk pregnancies. Everything we do is focused on keeping both mother and baby well throughout pregnancy. As a MFMUG nutrition assistant intern will help MFM clinicians educate pregnant women with diabetes and multiple gestations. The MFMUG nutrition assistant intern will also assist with
referrals to educate patients for nutritional consultations from surrounding offices. The nutritional consults can range from preconceptual to weight management.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
Additional requirements:
Area of study or major: Current pursuit of bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or similar area and in good standing with educational institution.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Expected Licensure/Certification/Registration upon completion of required education:
· License: Ohio Licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Required, and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist preferred (or completed within 1 year of hire)
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Dietetics, or similar area required
· Certification: BLS/CPR certification for the Healthcare Provider required and ongoing maintenance of Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)
· Experience: A minimum of 1000 hours providing diabetes care and education. Minimum of two years’ experience required and certification within 1 year of hire
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
