The Security Process Automation Team is part of the Navy Federal’s Information Security Division within the Advanced Cyber Initiatives branch. Our mission is to enhance operational efficiency, resilience, and scalability across the Security Department by automating and optimizing key processes using Pega, a leading low-code platform. We design and implement intelligent workflows that reduce manual effort, accelerate response times, and ensure consistency across security operations.

In addition to process automation, we are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to drive smarter decision-making, predictive analytics, and adaptive workflows. By integrating AI into our automation strategies, we aim to proactively identify risks, streamline incident response, and improve overall security posture. The Summer Associate will play a key role in supporting these initiatives, gaining exposure to both low-code development and AI-enhanced cybersecurity solutions.

Potential projects could include:

  • Design and test Pega workflows for incident response, access management, and compliance tracking.
  • Integrate AI models into Pega workflows to enable intelligent routing, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics.
  • Identify manual processes that can benefit from AI-driven automation and assist in developing proof-of-concept solutions.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide feedback on usability and performance of AI-enhanced workflows.
  • Contribute to reporting and analytics efforts to measure the impact of AI and automation on operational efficiency.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.

  • Pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts, with experience applying AI to real-world problems.
  • Familiarity with Pega or other low-code platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with AI/ML tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and ability to leverage them to enhance automation workflows.
  • Interest in process automation, AI integration, and cybersecurity operations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
