2026 TEGNA Summer News Internship Program

Your Future Starts Here

At TEGNA, making news isn’t legacy — it’s leadership.

This isn’t old-school TV. We’re setting the pace for a sustainable, streaming-first future of journalism.

We’re hiring bold, creative interns who embrace cutting-edge tech to deliver high-impact journalism that makes a difference.

This 10-week paid internship runs June 1 – August 7, 2026, at select TEGNA stations nationwide.

Many interns launch full-time TEGNA careers right after the program.

What You’ll Do

  • Pitch and research stories that matter
  • Create content for streaming, digital, social, and TV
  • Work alongside reporters, producers, anchors, and meteorologists—sometimes in the field
  • Jump in on special projects that shape local coverage

What We Value

We’re looking for interns who live our values every day:

  • Demand the Truth – Chase stories that make an impact
  • Do the Right Thing – Lead with fairness and integrity
  • Work Smarter – Use creativity and emerging tech to reach new audiences
  • Win Together – Collaborate and celebrate team success

How This Internship Skyrockets Your Career

  • Hands-On Work – Real assignments for your demo reel
  • Career Growth – Weekly development sessions to fast-track your skills
  • Networking – Learn from some of the nation’s top media pros
  • Paid Opportunity – Earn money while making an impact in a fast-paced newsroom
  • The standard compensation rate is $15.00 per hour unless a higher state or local minimum wage overrides it. Notable exceptions include:
    • Denver, CO - $19.29 per hour
    • Sacramento, CA - $16.90 per hour
    • San Diego, CA - $17.25 per hour
    • Seattle, WA - $20.76 per hour
    • Spokane, WA - $16.66 per hour

What We’re Looking For

  • Current college juniors or seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Studying journalism, communications, or a related major
  • Passion for one of these three career paths:
    • TV news producing
    • TV news reporting
    • TV meteorology
  • Experience writing, editing, fact-checking, and using digital/social tools
  • Strong communicator who never misses deadlines

This internship is not for sports or film. It’s for hard-news journalists and meteorologists ready to disrupt the industry and deliver information in new ways that meet audiences where they are.

When You Apply

Please include:

  • Your resume
  • A very short cover letter (why TEGNA, what you bring, where you’re headed)
  • Work samples (demo reel, portfolio, video, or published articles)

A Final Note

Our summer internship program is highly competitive. We review every application personally, but only selected candidates will be contacted for interviews.

  • Rolling applications — most 2026 interns hired by end of 2025
  • Decisions by email — expect updates by Jan/Feb 2026
  • Summer Only — Our internships are in the summer, not fall or spring

Great journalists are persistent. If you’re not chosen this year, apply again next time.
