The Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance team is responsible for ensuring our products meet global product safety and regulatory requirements and partners with engineering teams around the world on our new product launches.This team is also a leader in battery safety research and standards, with staff holding key roles in development committees and industry associations.


Job Description

We seek a motivated graduate or undergraduate student to start forming the next generation of Motorola Solutions experts in rechargeable energy technology. This internship will provide opportunities to develop expertise in theoretical and experimental product compliance testing, and rechargeable battery design and characterization. 

The Motorola Solutions cell technology and safety lab features state of the art testing equipment, data acquisition machines, thermal chambers, G-shock tower, Vibration Tables, microscopes, resistance welder, and hoods to conduct construction analyses of cells and battery packs.  Under the supervision of Senior Electrical and Mechanical engineers, the intern will receive hands-on experience with lab equipment, learn fundamentals of lithium ion cell technology, battery design and critical aspects of lithium charging safety.

Candidates should have completed entry level coursework in math, physics, chemistry, and circuit theory.

Additional Skills

  • Use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DC bench supplies, multi-meters etc. 

  • Knowledge or experience with development tools such as circuit simulators and substrate layout tools (ex. PSPICE, MATLAB, Cadence, etc.)

  • Knowledge or experience with lithium-ion battery design and associated circuits 

  • Knowledge or experience with lithium-ion charging systems 

  • Knowledge or experience with regulatory and certification topics such as Electromagnetic Compatibility, Electromagnetic Immunity, Safety, and Energy Efficiency regulations 

  • Knowledge or experience with design using microprocessors 

  • Knowledge or experience in DC power regulation and distribution


Basic Requirements

  • Entry-level coursework in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Must graduate on or after May 2027.

  • Must be a US Citizen.
