Position Overview
The Environmental Health Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Intern will assist the EHSS team and cross-functional teams to improve safety culture and to meet/exceed regulatory and corporate policy requirements. The position is intended to be an opportunity for an Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Engineering undergraduate to obtain hands-on EHS experience with a wide variety of tasks while contributing to the company’s overall goals and objectives.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and implementation of EHS written and training programs.
- Create and review JSA (job safety analysis) with cross-functional groups.
- Perform ergonomic risk assessments and evaluations.
- Conduct new hire orientation training and other EHS training, as needed.
- Complete safety and hazardous waste storage area inspections.
- Participate in site level risk assessments.
- Conduct PPE (personal protective equipment) risk assessments.
- Co-lead a Safety Committee and work with Safety Committee team members.
- Perform annual chemical inventory and MAQ (Maximum Allowable Quantity) review.
- Support daily EHS activities, such as audits, incident investigations, corrective action, and preventative action determination and implementation.
- Perform noise level monitoring and noise level mapping.
- Ability to communicate, work with cross-functional team members, organize daily and long-term work goals, time-management, and multitask.
- Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
- Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
- Ability to work designated schedule.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, as needed.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
- Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
- Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 20% of a typical working day.
- Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability and means to travel between local Exact Sciences locations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Basic computer skills to include internet navigation and email usage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Grade point average of 3.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
- Membership in the American Society of Safety Engineers or other recognized safety organization.
- Demonstrated history of volunteering in the community.
- Hold a leadership position in an on-campus student organization.
Salary Range:
