The Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis is seeking well-rounded and motivated individuals to join our Data Excellence team. The student filling this position will handle a wide range of important duties.
The Data Platform Engineer Intern will join the Data Platform Engineering team to gain hands-on experience supporting the Bank’s enterprise data platforms and modern analytics technologies. This role offers exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Azure SQL, SAP BusinessObjects, and other critical systems that enable data-driven decision-making. Interns will work under the guidance of senior engineers and collaborate on projects that improve platform reliability, performance, and automation while learning industry best practices. This internship will follow our hybrid workforce model and will be required to be located in or around the Indianapolis area.
Position Requirements:
Platform Support: Assist with deployments across environments (Development → Test → Production) for database objects, SAP BusinessObjects reports, and Microsoft Fabric components (Power BI reports, pipelines, notebooks, dataflows).
Troubleshooting & Service Requests: Help resolve user access issues, report and query troubleshooting, and data connectivity problems using ServiceNow and Azure DevOps.
Performance & Security: Support monitoring activities and follow established security and compliance standards.
Automation & Infrastructure: Collaborate on scripting and automation projects using PowerShell, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and assist in developing Terraform modules for Microsoft Fabric.
Migration & Modernization: Contribute to initiatives like transitioning the Admin Control database to Microsoft Fabric using Lakehouse/Data Warehouse architecture, notebooks, and pipelines.
Training & Enablement: Assist in creating training materials (playbooks, videos, design standards) to upskill Bank staff on Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

Program Features & Requirements:
Interns are paid a competitive hourly rate.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
Familiarity with database fundamentals (tables, views, stored procedures) and basic SQL/T-SQL or PL/SQL.
Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, or similar platforms preferred.
Basic understanding of scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) and version control tools.
Interest in cloud technologies (Azure), infrastructure concepts (VMs, networking, storage), and Agile methodology.
Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
