Job Description

Become familiarized with generator construction and performance.  Apply this knowledge to improve the generator design process through development of new interfaces for existing design software. Add enhancements to design software according to engineer requests.  Of special interest is software that is aimed at large nuclear generator design.  These machines have some unique geometries and features due to their large size and high power density.  This industry has been dormant for several decades and is now being revived by the AI power boom.  
Gain lab experience by assisting in the suppressor redesign effort - make tape trials on tubes for the new suppressor candidates from various tape vendors around the world.

Project Outcomes:

Design engineers will regain convenient access to historical design methods used for nuclear generator design.

Primary Skills Developed:

An overview of generator construction and operation.  Applied knowledge of C#, C++, Python and FORTRAN as applied to engineering design processes.  Insulation test sample preparation and qualification methods.

Basic Qualifications:

-Engineering student, undergrad or masters.

-Minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0.

Desired Qualifications:

-Electric power engineer preferred.  Electrical, mechanical or materials engineering students with some aptitude at coding will be able to succeed in this position.  

-Proficiency in specific languages is not required.

The pay for this position ranges from $27-35/ hr. based on years of undergraduate/graduate field of study completed

This position is also eligible for:

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
  • Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services
  • GE Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans. (Eligibility occurs on the 1st of the month following the 90th day.)
