Project Description:

Xcel Energy is seeking a Technical Intern to support our Chiller Production Operations team in Denver, CO. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in utility billing systems and process automation. The intern will collaborate with internal stakeholders and apply modern tools to enhance billing workflows. The role provides exposure to real-world applications of data analytics and automation in the energy sector.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Analyze and document current steam and chilled water billing procedures.
• Develop and implement improvements using Power BI, CoPilot, and Power Automate.
• Assist in automating data flows and reporting dashboards.
• Collaborate with Billing Analyst, Systems Analyst and Business Development and other team members to validate updates.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Support testing and deployment of new billing process enhancements.

This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start date. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student with Junior or Senior status (as of Fall 2026).
• Enrolled in college or university and pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related technical field.
• Able to commute to the Chilled Water Center, 500 15th Street, Denver, CO.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications

• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Experience with Power BI, Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or similar tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with utility billing or financial systems.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
• Mechanical Engineering or related knowledge
