About CME Group:

CME Group is currently seeking motivated and talented students who want to help us solve some of the most complex challenges in financial technology. Technology teams at CME write and maintain ultra low-latency electronic trading platforms, risk management systems, and front-end trading interfaces, all of which are central to CME’s business. We are focused on designing, building and deploying customer focused solutions with passion and precision.

CME’s Technology Summer Internship program offers students opportunities to learn more about CME’s business, our role in the financial industry, and the types of technology that keep our markets running. Students will develop both their technical skills and expand their network with access to industry experts, while working alongside other talented and ambitious students with a passion for FinTech.

About Our Team:

The Global Information Security (GIS) Department is a critical component of the Technology Division and is focused on delivering a safe and secure environment for the operation of our markets. The IT Compliance & Controls team within GIS focuses on conducting and managing IT control testing and the continuance compliance testing and monitoring program; conducting software development lifecycle and application control compliance testing; managing the issues management process; governance of IT policy, functional standards, and IT controls; and managing reporting to department and division management.

The Role: A High-Impact, Applied Technology Opportunity

This is a unique, high-impact opportunity to work at the intersection of two of the most in-demand fields in technology: Generative AI and Technology Risk & Compliance.

This role is designed for a technically-skilled student to apply cutting-edge AI to solve complex, real-world business challenges in a regulated financial technology environment. The intern will be a valued contributor, tasked with building intelligent agents and automation tools that will measurably enhance how our team operates, automates manual tasks, and assists our analysts in preventing and/or detecting technology and security risk(s).

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Help define and build the future of a "GenAI-powered" compliance program, presenting your findings and tools to team leadership at the end of the summer.

  • Partner with senior IT compliance and controls analysts to identify high-effort manual tasks (like policy review, control testing, and evidence gathering).

  • Design, build, and deploy secure, "human-in-the-loop" Generative AI tools to automate those tasks.

  • Leverage a modern AI toolkit, including building custom Gems, using NotebookLM to analyze complex IT policies, and developing AI agents for process automation.

  • Use GenAI-Assisted Development tools to help our team build and accelerate their own automated compliance monitoring scripts.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):

  • Currently pursuing a college/university degree in IT Audit, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Risk Management, Engineering, AI, or another related field.

  • Basic prompt engineering skills.

  • A genuine passion for automation, efficiency, and solving complex puzzles.

  • Ability to analyze data, understand trends, and summarize findings effectively.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

  • A proactive, self-motivated, and creative problem-solver with a strong collaborative mindset and a passion for learning.

Bonus Qualifications (Helpful but Not Required):

  • Hands-on programming experience in a modern language (e.g., Python, JavaScript) combined with familiarity using Generative AI tools (e.g., Gemini, NotebookLM).

  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity protocols, IT governance, and/or risk management.

  • Basic understanding of control frameworks (e.g., NIST, COBIT, SOX, SOC, ISO27001/42001).

  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, or similar collaboration tools.

What You Will Gain (Program Highlights):

  • Unique Skill Development: Gain practical, hands-on experience at the intersection of Generative AI and Technology Risk Management—a rare and highly-valued combination in the financial technology industry.

  • Practical Application & Impact: Move beyond theoretical work and apply your skills to practical, high-impact challenges. You will build high-value, proof-of-concept tools that directly address immediate business problems and enhance team efficiency.

  • Executive Mentorship: You will work directly with and learn from senior leaders in our Global Information Security (GIS) and Technology departments.
