The Robotics & Controls Intern will join the wider Robotics & Controls team. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on development of algorithms and productions level software that live at the heart of a complex robotic surgical system for medical applications. We work in a variety of exciting robotic functions including but not limited to kinematic and dynamic analysis, motion generation, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), control algorithms, system response characterization, performance and detailed software development.

This position start date is on Summer 2026 and will end by December 2026.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and test AI/ML models, and control algorithms for sophisticated robotic systems.
  • Actively participate in algorithmic, control discussion, and code reviews
  • Develop C++ software for safety critical applications

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • General understanding of robot forward and inverse kinematics and dynamics, motion trajectories and path planning.
  • General understanding of artificial intelligence techniques including machine learning models, especially transformer, both training and inference.
  • Knowledge of robotics manipulation and computer vision.
  • Excellent communication and documentation
  • Able to work in the US and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., F1, H1-B status)
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University or College PhD program in robotics, computer science, or artificial intelligence, throughout the entire duration of the internship. Must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.8 or higher and be available to work the hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience

  • Familiarity working with large codebases and have a good understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures and algorithms, programming in UNIX environments)
  • Strong programming experience in Python and/or Matlab. Familiarity with C++ is expected

The expected pay range for this position is between $31.00 per hour and $59.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
